In electronic manufacturing, consistency starts long before assembly begins. Even the best-designed PCB assembly project can fail if raw materials and components don’t meet quality standards. That’s why Incoming Quality Control (IQC) is one of the most critical checkpoints in our production process at Fumax.
Our one-page IQC checklist ensures every batch — from resistors to connectors — meets strict performance and reliability requirements before it ever reaches the SMT line.
1. Visual and Packaging Inspection
Every incoming part goes through a visual check for label accuracy, packaging integrity, and handling compliance. We verify part numbers, lot codes, manufacturer details, and MSL (Moisture Sensitivity Level) information to prevent mix-ups and moisture damage. ✔ No broken reels, no mixed batches, no counterfeit signs.
2. Quantity and Specification Verification
Our IQC team cross-checks every delivery against the purchase order and BOM. Quantity mismatches or deviations in part description are flagged immediately. For high-value or custom components, independent re-counting and barcode verification are performed.
✔ Ensures the right part, in the right quantity, at the right time.
3. Dimensional and Mechanical Checks
For mechanical components like housings, connectors, or brackets, we perform dimensional measurement using calipers or coordinate measuring tools to ensure proper fit during assembly. ✔ Prevents downstream alignment issues and rework.
4. Electrical and Functional Sampling Tests
Random samples of capacitors, resistors, ICs, and power components undergo electrical testing using LCR meters and oscilloscopes. This ensures that parts match the required electrical tolerance and functionality before use. ✔ Detects hidden issues like internal shorts or tolerance drift early.
5. Solderability and Moisture Testing
All SMT components are checked for oxidation, lead finish, and solderability. For moisture-sensitive parts, Fumax follows JEDEC J-STD-033 standards, including baking procedures and humidity indicator checks. ✔ Guarantees reliable solder joints and optimal reflow performance.
6. Traceability and Documentation
Each batch receives a unique tracking code, linking supplier data, inspection results, and test reports. This provides full traceability from component to finished product — essential for quality audits and after-sales support. ✔ Transparency that supports ISO 9001 and RoHS/REACH compliance.
7. Immediate Action on Nonconformance
If any part fails inspection, we initiate a Nonconformance Report (NCR) within the hour. The material is quarantined, suppliers are notified, and corrective action is documented before re-approval. ✔ Protects the production line from defective input.
Quality Starts at the Door
A strong IQC process is the first line of defense against downstream defects and delays. At Fumax, every batch of materials passes through a standardized, data-driven quality gate — ensuring that only compliant, reliable components enter our PCB assembly and electronic design processes.
